We regard his death, acknowledge his death, as a direct result of prejudice, intolerance, and homophobia.

He was tortured physically, mentally, psychologically and he was abused in all possible ways you can imagine. Then, not satisfied with the abuse they’d already inflicted, according to the forensics, they strangled him with his own t-shirt.

I never thought he wouldn’t come home, that he’d be dead.

He was a child, not even an adult, even if he was different, no-one should take someone’s life like this. For nothing.

Angelica Ivo, mother of 14 year old Alexandre Thomé Ivo Rajão, who was murdered in an anti-gay hate crime in Rio de Janeiro in 2010. The suspects have not been prosecuted.

There’s just no need.
